THAILAND BOULDER AREA

The Thailand Boulder Area

GETTING THERE AND INFORMATION:

The Thailand area is easily visible from the parking area and Needles Highway.  The Thailand boulder itself is a proud boulder that sits up on the hill over looking the road. It was the main reason to stop and check out this area. Although it was the first boulder to be spotted in what would become the Playhouse boulders it was actually one of the last boulders to be developed. John Andersen visited the area after getting word from the author that there could be some potential. John came back with great news he had found a beautiful boulder in the trees. After a short hike to the location and some rope cleaning it introduced Punks In the Park aka Parental Supervision V5. So named due to John and the author working in CSP and having to deal with people and customers that well were….Punks in the Park. A local strong man climber after climbing this problem said that this was likely the best V5 and hardest V5 outside of Rushmore.

THE THAILAND BOULDER

The Thailand boulder is a huge boulder that sits on a rocky ridge that is the obvious way to spot the Playhouse Boulders. To reach this boulder you will need to cross the creek and veer left go around the shoulder of a small hill following the dried up creek bed heading north for about 150-200ft. From here turn right and head east up the hill. Once on top of the hills look to your right (southeast) and you should see it on the ridge. This boulder has potential for some scary highballs. Most of the easier terrain has been climbed. The tall overhanging north face to the left of black west face slab is a project for the future.
