The Rockmaze is a great sandstone area outside of Rapid City.

MANCALA BOULDER AKA TIGERLILY BOULDER

1.) MANCALA V4****– SDS and work up on decent slopers to the overhanging mantle that is tricky and committing. One of the best for the grade in this area!

2.) TIGER LILY V5*– Start low on what is now polished quartz holds. Work up using a “hidden” 2 finger pocket with your right and then exit up and mantle.

3.) TIGER LILY LEFT V3***-Start on the hold at mid height. Work up and slightly left following in cuts to the balancy top.

4.) TIGER LILY RIGHT V3***– Same start as for problem #3. Only work up and slightly right on not so good slopers.

SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT BOULDER

1.) WARM UP V0– SDS and follow up the positive good holds straight up.

2.) SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT V2****– Said to be one of the best V2s in the Black Hills. This fun problem SDS and ascends the leaning right prow to a fun mantle on top.

THE ARETE OF SUNSHINE BOULDER

1.) V0– Non-descript warm up following up the face and arete.

2.) LEFT FLAKE V0**– Follows up the starting slab to the flake that juts out left to the top.

3.) RIGHT FLAKE V0**– Follows up the starting slab to the flake that juts out right to the top.

4.) THE ASPEN V6**– SDS and work up the holdless slab as it seems. Look for small crimps and slopers. Once you get transitioned onto the face its a move or two to the top.

5.) THE ARETE OF SUNSHINE V2**– SDS and work the obvious rightward leaning arete.

6.) HUCK! FOREST HUCK! V4**– Starts low and moves up on big crimp pocket features. To a nice reach/throw at the top into a horizontal pocket.

SALZA BOULDER

The salza boulder is a fun boulder with lots of good warm up problems. Its one of the better blocks to warm up on if you are heading to the Eastern Area of the maze. It has a couple of sit starts that can help one work on getting off the ground.

1.) V2*– Start low and work up the crimps to the top.

2.) SALZA V3***– Great problem that SDS and follows up shelf like features to fun pumpy holds top out.

3.) SALZA CORNER V3**– Start low and work up crimps to the open book feature. Follow it as it curves slightly right to the mantle.

4A.) V2*– Start start and work the big holds to the top.

4B.) SALZA’s CRACK TRAVERSE V2***– Start as for problem 4A but when you get to the crack that runs horizontal follow this to its end and then top out.
